Shushtar is a city and capital of Shushtar County, Khuzestan Province, Iran. Shushtar is an ancient fortress city, approximately 92 kilometres away from Ahvaz, the centre of the province. Shushtar was very famous for its Hydraulic system and its special design as a flourished city. Shushtar Salasel Castle is a huge fortress containing several yards, bathrooms, large pools, barracks, stables, shabestans, and gardens, towers, armory, Naghare Khaneh or Timpani House, harem, kitchen, fence, and moat. Salasel Castle has been ruined and then renovated over and over, and what can be seen now go back to Qajar dynasty castle. This castle, as well as other 15 monuments of Shushtar, was registered in UNESCO World Historical Heritage and for its wonderful Hydraulic System as well.
